School Application and Enrolment Procedures
Selective High Schools Application Form
In year 5 of primary school please inform your son's Principal, that you intend to seek enrolment at Farrer MAHS for Year 7.
From the 25th October application information is available on the internet and procedures for enrolment will change to "online application". At this stage there are still some hard copy applications available from your primary school however applicants are encouraged to apply online at the following website:
http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement
At this stage applicants from non government schools and those without internet access can obtain an application package from Kerry Hussey at Farrer, however this process will eventually be phased out.
Selective Schools will forward your application to the Principal of your son's current school. Primary Principals will make comment online, although some Principals may choose not to complete this section of the form. If this is the case, you must contact Selective Schools 02 9707 6262 and request an Exemption Form, so that your application will still be considered.
Important dates for submitting your application are on the Selective School website or on the front of the forms if you are not applying online.
Selective Schools Exam
During Year 6 in primary school your son will sit a Selective Schools exam in mid-March. You will be advised by the Selective Schools Unit as to the exam centre, times and what your son will require.
The Selective Schools Unit will advise Farrer of the applicant's scores and a School Selection Committee will be formed to finalise offers of placement. Members of the Selection Committee include: an officer from the Selective Schools Unit; a representative from the Department of Education; Farrer's principal; and a community representative. You will be sent an outcome letter when the School Selection Committee meetings have been finalised throughout the State.
Applying for enrolment into Years 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12
Late in July, the Selective Schools Unit places advertisements in the press inviting applications for enrolment in Years 8 to 12 at Selective High Schools, including Farrer. You will need to obtain and submit a Years 8-12 Selective High Schools application package and include a current school report, plus any other supporting documentation, including a photograph of your son.

The Farrer Selection Committee interviews all applicants in August / September to establish a priority list. The school has a ceiling in the number of boarder and day places that can be enrolled at Farrer. As vacancies become available offers will made from the priority lists created by the selection committee.
Late applications are considered at special selection meetings. To make a late application you will need to complete a Years 8-12 Selective High Schools application package as above.
Offers of Placement
Should you receive an offer of placement, an acceptance fee of $666 will be required by the school (made payable to Farrer MAHS). Your acceptance fee will be credited to your son's school fee account and bond upon enrolment. Should you not proceed with the enrolment, the acceptance fee is non-refundable.
If you require any further information or concerns please contact our Enrolments Officer, Kerry Hussey, phone 67648607 of kerry.hussey@det.nsw.edu.au
Farrer has site E24 at the AgQuip Field Days, and I invite you to visit our displays.
Thank you for your interest in our school.
Yours faithfully
STEVE CAVANAGH
