boarding School

Farrer MAHS is a single sex boarding school catering for boys from Year 7 to Year 12. The boarding school population usually exceeds 350 students. Boys come to Farrer from all over NSW and parts of Southern Queensland.

The boarding school is organised horizontally by year group - ie. Year 7 all live together, as do year 8 and so on. Each dormitory, comprising 12 students is supervised by a year 12 prefect as well as residential teacher and duty staff.

Students boarding at Farrer are provided with three nutritious meals a day from the school refectory (dining hall), prepared and served by qualified chefs, as well as morning and afternoon tea consisting of fruit and muesli bars. At night, half way through prep, boarding students are treated to a light supper, usually consisting of cake and a drink.

Boys will be boys, and as such their clothes will get dirty. There is an onsite laundry where once a week boarding students can drop off their dirty laundry and then later in that same week pick it up clean and ironed.

All boarding students participate in the prep (homework) program at night beginning at 6:30pm. During prep students can work on homework from that day, assessment tasks or assignments. Other prep activities include:

  • Night Library: students can use the library at night for research, supervised by a qualified librarian.
  • Tutorial program: students can participate in small tutorials where they can get assistance in different subject areas.
  • Common room: On certain nights of the week students are able to have a little down time in a common room designated for their year group to watch television.
  • Weights room: Students in years 9 & 12 are able to use the weights room for exercise in the second half of prep.

The students at Farrer are not all work and no play. Each year group has a common room where they can watch television, play pool or just sit around and catch up with mates. In warmer months of the year the pool and diving boards are also a popular attraction. Along with these facilities are also the school sporting ovals, always available for an impromptu touch football game.

To ensure boredom is not a problem at Farrer on weekends we have a weekend activities program which has included activities such as:

  • House sporting competitions
  • trips in town to the Movie theatre
  • Deep sea fishing
  • Laser skirmish

Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School is a friendly, comfortable boarding school for your son(s) to live and study, where he/they will enjoy making life long friends and gaining memorable experiences.
