How are they selected?

Firstly the Farrer White Suffolk stud is limited to approximately 120 breeding ewes due to the diverse nature of the activities undertaken on the school property. Each year roughly  50  young replacement ewes are brought into the stud and as a result Farrer is able to sell 25 -35 mature ewes in late November each year.

After pregnancy scanning and weaning some unsatisfactory performing ewes are sent straight to the Tamworth Sale yards. Then the rest are ranked using Lambplan's Lamb 2020 index. The top 120 ewes (with only slight adjustments) are retained and the rest are offered for sale. Therefore the available sale ewes will come from the various age groups currently in the flock.
